Ambulance patients invited to have their say

Code of Conduct

St John NT has issued 1500 surveys to recent patients inviting them to provide feedback on the Northern Territory ambulance service as part of the Council of Ambulance Authorities Patient Experience Survey.

Responses to the survey are presented in the annual CAA Patient Experience Report, which has been produced since 2002, capturing responses from 11 statutory ambulance services across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

In 2024, patient satisfaction among Territorians rated as close to perfect with the Northern Territory sitting at the top of the nation. For the second consecutive year, 99% of patients surveyed found their experience dealing with St John NT to be positive overall  – equal with New South Wales as the highest proportion out of any other Australian ambulance service.

The report’s overwhelmingly positive findings were testament to the commitment and dedication all staff at St John NT invested in the ambulance service with the NT’s results some of the best in the country in many of the ratings.

St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs hoped that as many people as possible would respond to the survey.

“This feedback is extremely important to us, in 2023/24 St John NT answered over 91,000 Triple Zero (000) calls and transported over 45,000 patients to hospital. Understanding our patients’ experience in receiving this service helps us gain valuable insight and highlights how patients’ expectations about the service are met or if there are any areas in our service which require special attention and/or improvement.

“All survey recipients have been randomly selected from across the Territory, the survey only takes 10 minutes and can be completed online or on the hard copy questionnaire provided,” he said.

The CAA Patient Experience Survey remains open until Friday, 6 June 2025.

All personal opinions collected in the survey remain strictly confidential. Findings from the survey will be publicly released later this year.

“I urge all people who receive the survey to please complete it, the safety of our patients and delivery of quality care is our top priority. Let us know if we met your expectations,” Mr Tombs added.
