St John NT is calling on remote organisations across the Northern Territory to apply for its Heart Grant program, which aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities in communities where medical support may be delayed.
Thanks to funding from the Northern Territory Government’s Community Benefit Fund, the St John NT Heart Grant will support 50 community groups, sporting clubs, and not-for-profits by providing life-saving public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) packages, valued at over $2,500, for just $249.
Recognising the unique challenges faced by remote and rural communities, St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs said the organisation is actively encouraging Heart Grant applications from groups outside major centres.
“The purpose of the Heart Grant is to increase the emergency response capabilities of our communities right across the Territory,” Mr Tombs said.
“We are thrilled to already have 34 successful applicants – including remote organisations such as Miwatj Health Service in Yirrkala, Kentish Early Learning Centre in Tennant Creek, and Alice Springs Baseball Association – but we are calling for more remote organisations to apply and take advantage of this program.
“Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. In remote areas where help may be hours away, having a publicly accessible AED nearby can save lives.”
Each successful applicant will receive a St John G5 iCPR AED, an AED Ready Kit, outdoor cabinet, signage, and training, giving organisations and their community members the tools and confidence to respond quickly in an emergency.
Applications for the St John NT Heart Grant close at 5:00pm ACST on 30 June 2025, or once all 16 remaining grants are allocated.
