St John NT Chair Mr Peter Carew is pleased to announce that the Board has selected Ms Abigail Trewin AM as the new CEO of St John NT.
Ms Trewin brings with her a wealth of experience in strategic decision-making, policy and leadership gained through senior roles with government and non-government organisations, including the NT Government, the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, AUSMAT disaster response teams and previously at St John NT.
“Abi has worked in complex and high-pressure environments, in crisis response and as a paramedic equipping her with firsthand knowledge in the integral role emergency services play in providing care and understanding for people and our community,” Mr Carew explained.
On accepting the role Ms Trewin said that she was looking forward to joining the St John NT team.
“This is an exciting leadership opportunity. I understand the challenges ahead and the importance of the organisation. Protecting, growing and promoting this valuable service is my absolute focus,” she said.
In making the selection, the St John NT Board were encouraged by the new insight Ms Trewin’s leadership will bring to the organisation.
“St John NT has a broad responsibility to our community right across the NT. In addition to being there in emergency medical situations, we also provide lifesaving skills through first aid training. Our incredible network of volunteers trains our youth members to be future leaders and supports Territorians with event health services, demonstrating the Order of St John’s commitment to the service of humanity.
“Abi’s appointment provides a new opportunity to build cohesion across our departments, to realign our commitment to the community and further develop our strategic vision and mission of saving lives and building resilience,” Mr Carew said.
Deputy Chief Minister of the Finocchiaro CLP Government Gerard Maley said the appointment of Abigail Trewin to the role of CEO was a big win for St John NT and a big loss for the NT Government.
“Ms Trewin is a leader with exemplary qualities and an asset to any organisation lucky enough to have her, “Mr Maley said.
“Her commitment and dedication to our government sets an unprecedented standard in leadership and professionalism.
“We thank Ms Trewin for her hard work and loyalty; she will be missed.”
Ms Trewin will commence at St John NT on 23 February, Mr Reece Kershew is currently the interim CEO and will assist during the leadership transition.
