Media Release: Awards to celebrate excellence in critical services
  17 Aug 2023

St John NT is calling on the community to help celebrate those who go above and beyond the call of duty to provide critical life-saving services by nominating them for a St John NT Excellence Award.

The St John NT Excellence Awards celebrate and recognise staff and volunteers who demonstrate excellence in leadership or clinical practice, an outstanding level of care, professionalism and compassion for members of the Northern Territory community.

St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs said that each year St John NT paramedics, first aid trainers, support staff and volunteers touch the lives of tens of thousands of people across the Territory through providing medical assistance, education and support.

“It never ceases to amaze me the passion and dedication of the staff at St John NT, who each day work within the community to provide life-saving medical assistance, vital first aid training, support services and by volunteering to serve their community,” he said.

“These Awards present a fantastic opportunity to say thank you and celebrate those who act as mentors and leaders in our service and provide inspiration to others in how we care for the community.”

The 2023 Awards will recognise the work of our Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, Patient Transport Officers, volunteers and support staff from across the organisation.

“Each member of our team is committed to caring for the community across the Territory, whether it be our response to a Triple Zero (000) call, paramedics at the scene of an accident, volunteers at major events, or through provision of first aid training,” Mr Tombs said.

“I encourage you to show your support and nominate those individuals who have been outstanding in their contributions in providing care and compassion, along with the professionalism, in what are sometimes difficult circumstances.”

Members of the public can nominate a St John NT staff member or volunteer in one of 16 categories until Friday, 22 September. Award recipients will be announced at an awards ceremony at Parliament House in November.

Categories include St John NT paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, Patient Transport Officers, corporate services staff and junior and adult volunteers.

The St John NT Excellence Award would not be able to go ahead without the generous support of sponsors including the Northern Territory Government, Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise, Australasian College of Paramedicine, Charles Darwin University, AANT, Area9, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Palmerston Regional Business Association, ZOLL Medical Corporation, Ferno and Colemans Printing.
