Celebrating impact: St John NT recognised at NT Training Awards on World First Aid Day

On World First Aid Day, St John NT is celebrating the life-saving skills, dedication, and community impact of its staff, who are being recognised tonight at the 2025 NT Training Awards.

St John NT is proud to be represented at the awards as finalists in the following categories:
•    VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year – Tahlia Waters
•    Trainee of the Year – Teagan Hancock
•    Large Employer of the Year – St John NT

“These nominations are a proud moment for our organisation and tonight we celebrate our people who train, inspire, and empower Territorians to save lives!” said St John NT First Aid Training Manager, Debbie Bates.

Tahlia and Teagan are consistently praised by participants for the passion, energy, and engaging real-life examples they bring to their roles, with participant feedback affirming they are ‘wonderful and excellent at what they do’.

Tahlia was first inspired to become a First Aid Trainer after performing CPR on a customer in cardiac arrest at another workplace, Tahlia said she knows first-hand how critical it is to be confident in these skills.

“Having experienced the difference knowing first aid can and does make, it’s rewarding to now teach these skills and support St John NT’s vital role in saving lives,” she said.

Building on Tahlia’s point, Teagan added, “It’s fitting that the Training Awards fall on World First Aid Day, because it highlights the importance of what we do: equip people with the skills and confidence to help in an emergency”.

In 2024-25, St John NT delivered over 1,200 courses and 10,500 hours of training to almost 14,500 participants, reaching communities from Parap to Peppimenarti, Katherine to Kakadu, and Stuart Park to Alice Springs.

This year’s nominations build on the organisation’s legacy of excellence, following Storm Cloud’s Trainee of the Year award win at the 2024 NT Training Awards and subsequent recognition at the Australian Training Awards.

Tonight’s awards ceremony recognises the dedication, professionalism, and life-saving impact of St John NT across the Territory, celebrating the organisation’s training achievements on World First Aid Day.
