20090918_NHU_Week00Saturday 5th September 2009 saw Mandy, Kylie, Teresa and Mark Ferguson outside Gove Tackle shop having a sausage sizzle. 20090918_NHU_Week03The FM radio in Gove phoned Mark on the 3rd September to see if we could do a sausage sizzle and if so, they would promote the volunteer Service. This went quite well.

We arrived at 0800 to start setting up. Mandy and Mark took the BBQ down to Gove Tackle, onions were already cut, bread already buttered, sausages started to cook and Gove FM were also setting up. After about half an hour we started selling sausages.

Gove FM were playing songs and talking to people; whenever a child walked past the presenters asked if they would like to say “happy father’s day” as it was Fathers’ Day on Sunday. Then they asked if we could be interviewed. We answered a lot of questions about our volunteers and the service. Every second that the radio had on Saturday they promoted St John Ambulance. It was a great day.

20090918_NHU_Week01On Tuesday 8th September we had a visit from Commissioner Steve Peers and Territory Officer Craig Garraway. They went out to help Mandy at Rio Tinto as we had a stall out there. We stayed there for about 4 hours promoting St John Ambulance. Then on our training night where we went through splints; it was a very informative night.
