Territorians are advised to keep an eye out for a new look on Territory roads, with St John NT rolling out its redesigned ambulance livery across the Top End.
With Territory ambulances responding to more emergencies than any other state, being seen on the road has never been more important.
Independent analysis by UK company ORH has confirmed the Northern Territory has the highest rate of ambulance demand in Australia, with emergency ambulance responses increasing by almost 40 per cent in just five years.
The new livery has been designed with this growing demand and the Territory’s unique conditions in mind.
Based on a peer review of Australian and international services, the design was brought to life by Darwin graphic designer Jessica Cussen of Cussen Design.
St John NT Director of Ambulance Services Sam Kellick said the current livery had remained unchanged for over 10 years,
“The new design combines international best practice with the realities of delivering emergency care across the Northern Territory,” he said.
Premium retroreflective materials were selected to improve visibility in low-light conditions, and full rear chevrons help alert approaching motorists when ambulances are stationary at roadside incidents.
The materials and finishes have also been selected to withstand prolonged UV exposure and the demands of remote road conditions.
“St John NT ambulances are some of the most recognisable vehicles on Territory roads, so it's important that every aspect of the design works as hard as our crews do,” Mr Kellick added.
The rear of ambulances operating in the Top End will also feature striking artwork by Territory artist Sarrita King.
The artwork, Connect, was commissioned by St John NT as part of its Reconciliation Action Plan and reflects the importance of connection between people, community and place.
Ambulances operating in Central Australia will also feature an artwork by a local artist with St John NT recently calling for Expressions of Interest from Alice Springs artists to create an original artwork for ambulances based in Central Australia.
The new ambulance designs will be rolled out as St John NT replaces vehicles in its fleet.
