St John NT Ambulance Centres

Our centres are made up of a combination of Graduate Paramedics, Qualified Paramedics, Intensive Care Paramedics, Patient Transport Officers and Station Officers.

Given the large NT land area for a relatively small and remote population we work side by side with the aeromedical health transport services like the Royal Flying Doctor Service and CareFlight to provide emergency transport across the region. St John Ambulance emergency road transport is commonplace in remote areas especially at night or during bad weather when aircraft movement is restricted.

Named after Richard Morris and his ongoing commitment to the St John Ambulance Australia (NT) including over a quarter of a century of continuous service as Chairman of our Board of Directors from 1977 to 2000 this centre is staffed by one 24/7 emergency ambulance crew, one 24/7 patient transport crew and an 8 hour emergency ambulance crew from Monday to Friday.

As well as being an ambulance centre, the Head Office houses executive and administration staff, the Clinical Services department, the main volunteer office, community education, and training. For these areas the office hours are 8.00am to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday.

Communications Centres

St John Ambulance NT operates two communications centres in the Northern Territory. One is located in Alice Springs and the other at the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre at the Peter McAulay Centre in Berrimah. This Berrimah Centre is one of a kind in Australia in that it houses police, fire, ambulance and emergency services in the one centre, and is hence called a Tri-Service Communications Centre.

We are available to receive emergency calls every hour of every day, every day of the year. Our experienced Communications Officers gather vital patient, location and situation information to provide emergency services and dispatch ambulances as quickly as possible.

For general public enquiries (not emergencies) our Nhulunbuy office hours are 8.30am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday (except on public holidays).
