COURSE OUTCOME: To develop high level practical and analytical clinical skills to enable participants to provide advanced clinical management to the sick and/or injured in an industrial setting.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Site Emergency Response Team members, those with (or planning to offer) advanced casualty care responsibilities in the workplace.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  1. Your initial Industrial Paramedic enrolment requires that you have completed the Course in Occupational First Aid-70107NT (or equivalent) within the last 3 years
  2. Effective 01 September, 2006, intending participants will not be required to re-qualify in Occupational First Aid prior to completing an Industrial Paramedic course. If you maintain your Industrial Paramedic credential you will not need to maintain an Occupational First Aid credential, unless you choose to or your workplace requires you to.
  3. Should your Industrial Paramedic credential ‘lapse’ you will need to meet all pre-entry requirements if you choose to renew it some time in the future.
  4. The Industrial Paramedic course will extensively refer to learning which is achieved during the completion of the course pre-entry standard, Occupational First Aid (or its equivalent).
  5. You may be asked to demonstrate skills or recall knowledge from the Occupational First Aid level. To assist you refresh your knowledge prior to attending the Industrial Paramedic course, a pre-course Occupational First Aid revision workbook will be issued to you. You are required to complete and bring it with you to the course.
INITIAL COURSE PRE-REQUISITES: Current Occupational First Aid credential (or equivalent). This applies to your initial enrolment only, see point 2 and 3 above.
TIMES: The course is delivered in 10 days over a 2 week period. 8.00am – 5.00pm each day
VENUE: Public Course - Advised in your confirmation letter
Private Course - You will be advised by your employer
DRESS: Skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate. Casualty simulation make-up is used for practical activities. To enable you to actively participate in some of the practical exercises we recommend you bring an old set of clothes to change into. Some casualty clothing will be provided.
MEALS: At St John venues coffee and tea are provided. There will be one (1) hour for lunch each day (times may vary). Lunch is not provided, however a fridge and microwave oven are available for student use.
STUDENT RESOURCES: Will be provided on day 1 of the course and includes a wallet card; and promotional material.
YOU SHOULD BRING:
  • Notebook
  • Pen/Pencil
  • A set of Medical First Aid records used within your workplace.
  • Change of clothing
ASSESSMENT: Two written examinations will be held during the program. Clinical skill assessments will be ongoing throughout the program. Participants with literacy/numeracy difficulties or physical ailments/conditions should speak with the Trainer to discuss alternative approaches. Please note: participants should be aware this course requires them to undertake strenuous physical activity to meet all assessment criteria to a satisfactory level. It is advised that intending participants who sustain an injury after the time of booking contact St John-NT to postpone their training
SPECIAL NOTE: The clinical skills introduced during this program are designed for initiation under consultation with a site/industry medical officer registered in the Northern Territory. Participants must ensure their company has contact protocols in place to allow voice consultation as circumstances require.
PRIVACY STATEMENT:
  1. You will be asked to complete a Statistics Form at the commencement of this program.
  2. The information we collect is used for statistical reporting to the Department of Education and Training.
  3. If your course has been paid for by a third party (employer, employment agency) attendance details and a copy of your final credential will be made available to that party.
  4. St John (NT) may also use this information to contact you at the time your qualification is about to expire to remind you of the need to arrange to have it updated.
  5. If you do not wish to be contacted when your qualification is due for renewal please indicate in the space allocated on the Statistics Form.

  • Obstetrics;
  • Triage
CREDENTIAL ISSUED: Statement of Completion.
REVALIDATION RECOMMENDED: To maintain current competence at this level, St John Ambulance(NT) strongly recommends proficiency is re-validated within 3 years from the date of issue.
