WOW what a couple of days the cadets had at camp. They have been working very hard on the camping badge all year and were very excited to be completing this part of the badge. As part of the badge the cadets are asked to create a flag. They came up with a design that depicted one they felt strongly about and this was child protection. The flag in the photo shows the three faces that are used on the handouts and postcards. We put this up at the campground to give us a sense of team spirit. They started their day by setting up their tents and the flag that they created as well as becoming familiar with the camp ground. After this the fun started. They have been practicing cooking so they put some of this into practice and made hot dogs with bacon and onions, spaghetti Bolognese for dinner, pancakes, French toast, sausages for breakfast and ham salad sandwiches and sausages as well for lunch the next day. We never stopped eating.
At night they learnt how to spot spiders and the fresh water crocodiles with their torches. Most of them loved this and didn’t stop spotting spiders so let’s just say that we didn’t sit down on the ground much after that. Jake and Muriel pointed out bush soap in the trees at the camp ground so we spent some time trying to get it to soap up. The cadets went home tired, happy and sore from all the walking. They have now completed their Camping badge and I am very proud of all the hard work they have put into this. Thanks to Tarn, Rhys and Jason for all the effort they have put in to this badge as the kids have had a great time preparing and attending the camp.
