Hi to all, it has been a busy weekend for Katherine; Steve and I attended the Superintendents’ meeting in Darwin on Saturday with an early start to get there for a 9.00am kick off. The meeting was very productive with input from all who attended; this kept us busy for the first half of the day. Steve then had an assessors’ work shop following the meeting which continued for the rest of the day.

While Steve was in his meeting I had some retail therapy at Casuarina Shopping Centre, all good though no money was spent :( but I had lots of fun window shopping. On my return journey back to Casuarina Centre I heard my name called. Kyle, one of the Alice Springs competitors had seen me walk by the service house. It was good to catch up with the Alice Springs members who were competing in Sunday’s Adult First Aid competitions. Leaving them I wished them good luck for the day.

While the Competitions were taking place in Darwin, Katherine Adult division had their first Moto-X duty for the year. As we were in Darwin Steve had organized a few of our members to cover this event.

Thanks to Amy and Mitch who shared the duty with Steve Reubenson, Katherine’s new Officer in Charge. A big thanks to Steve for helping our Vollies on the day. It was great having Steve there as Paramedic back up; as it turned out there was a competitor who came off his bike fracturing his tibia, with Steve’s Paramedic skills gratefully appreciated. As it also happened, the ambulance day duty crew was on a case when this took place and Steve was able to treat and transport the competitor to KDH.

On Thursday night before the weekend, Amy gave her first lecture on fracture management. Amy is currently studying her Cert 4 in workplace training and assessment. Part of this involves delivering a lecture and conducting an assessment. Amy did a great job and the lecture was very informative.

Monday night with cadets doing their Camping proficiency badge was a fun night for all who attended as we had Topic 4 - Cooking a meal at camp. The time allocated enabled the cadets to cook just the essentials to show me their skills. Not a menu per se but menu items you would normally have on a camping trip made on the spur of the moment.

The cadets showed their cooking skills by making and cooking a piece of French toast with a gas burner to eat for supper. Close supervision of course! Next was popcorn and cheerio's, which I was told later was a breakfast cereal and not small sausages. So I got it wrong …. in the Territory they are known as small Frankfurters but I was still sold cheerio's at the deli, so I guess people knew what I was talking about anyway.

A great night cadets, thanks for a great night, I am looking forward to the time we actually get to go camping…… bring it on.

Katherine Adults and Cadets signing out for this week’s activities.

Until next week, take care and have fun Volunteering.
