Last Saturday Natalie attended her first public duty, the local AFL football competition, as a first responder. Natalie has made a lot of effort to complete the Skills Development program over the last few months. Allan, Darrin and Justin Hankinson assured her that she would now be able to treat patients and would be given the opportunity to do so if any presented at the duty.

What we did not know was that her first patient would be one of us. Unfortunately, Darrin took a slip and sprained his ankle. Natalie took excellent care of her patient while Allan and Justin assisted. Natalie was even able to undertake her first hand over to a duty crew.

As the photos show, Darrin maintained a good sense of humour throughout the whole incident.

Darrin is now being well cared for by his partner Sam, who is also the Tennant Creek Cadet Superintendent. He is now continually being reminded that the first part of “RICE” means “rest”. We all wish Darrin a speedy recovery. He assures us he is going to the football next week for the grand final.
