Nhulunbuy had their annual combined Cadet and Adult inspection on the 19th April 2010. Special guests included the Member for Nhulunbuy Lynne Walker, Commissioner Steve Peers, CEO St John Ambulance Ross Coburn, acting Officer In charge of Fire We started the inspection with a one minute silence in Honour of Knight of the Order and board member of St John Ambulance, Bernie Kilgariff AM. Then we started with the opening speech from Adult Superintendent and Officer in Charge of Arnhem Region Mark Ferguson. After the welcome speech the cadets stated the code of chivalry. The Commissioner then inspected the Cadet and Adult ranks. Mandy Paradise gave a great overview of what the Cadets were doing over the past year; what a great year the cadets have had. She also welcomed the Yirrkala to the division, but unfortunately no one of the Yirrkala cadet division was able to make it. Mandy gave out a few awards to those cadets who finished the cadet booklets. Mandy and the Commissioner then handed out the service star to the cadets. 1 year service star:
Well done every cadet for the commitment you have shown over past year. Finally Mandy and Commissioner handed out the most improved cadet award which went to Meagan Morris. Commissioner Steve Peers made a great speech, but forgot the Adult Superintendent’s name, to which everyone laughed. Kylie Newport did an amazing speech about the year that was 2009 for the Adult Division. Then awards were given out to the Adult Division for the amount of hours done. What was amazing is that most volunteers did over 200 hours, with Kylie Newport topping the lot with over 1200 hours of her time given to the Nhulunbuy Adult Division. Our local MLA for Nhulunbuy, Lynne Walker gave a small speech and was very supportive of the volunteers. Lynne Walker has sponsored two perpetual Trophies, one for cadet member of the year and the other for Adult member of the year. These were then presented. The Cadet member of the year for Nhulunbuy was Kasey Baker and the Adult member of the year was just about to be awarded when a mobile phone rang, the crew had a job to go to. The unfortunate thing was the Adult member of the year was on call and was called out, but we were able to present it to Kylie Newport a couple of minutes later. We would like to thank Lynne Walker for her ongoing support of our volunteers; what a fantastic support we have over here. Then Mark Ferguson closed our annual Cadet and Adult Divisional inspection with thanks to Lynne Walker for her ongoing support and Elinor and Phil Sampson for the use of their hall, and a big thank you to all the volunteers who have given their time over the past year. One person that we did forget to thank was Megan from training. Megan has been a big support for our division in the past and helped take photos for us this year as well as last year, so thank you Megan for all your support. We finished with a light supper of sandwiches and nibbles, with a lot of socializing afterwards. We had a fantastic turn out for this inspection and I am glad to say how great, supportive and proud we are of all the volunteers over at Nhulunbuy; it is like an extended family, we always come together.
