20090806_NHU_Inspection0 The Nhulunbuy St John Ambulance Adult and Cadet volunteer Divisions had their annual inspection on 27th July 2009. Commissioner Steve Peers OAM KStJ came over to officiate. Other special guests included Member for Nhulunbuy Ms Lynne Walker MLA, Town Administrator Mr Paul Hocking, Police and Fire OIC’s and the Director of the Hospital.

OIC of Nhulunbuy and Adult Divisional Superintendent Mark Ferguson was the MC for the function and ensured the program ran smoothly. The Chief Minister was scheduled to attend but unfortunately couldn’t attend as he had to return to Darwin earlier than expected.

The Commissioner inspected the members and presented several awards. These included the promotion of Mark Ferguson as Superintendent of the Nhulunbuy Adult Division and presented the20090806_NHU_Inspection1 Warrant of Appointment to Cadet Superintendent Mandy Paradise, Mandy also received her 3 year bar.

Certificates were awarded to members of both the Adult and Cadet Divisions in recognition of their hours of service to the community. The local Pharmacy donated gift packs to four officers.

Three members were recognised for contributing over 250 hours of service this year. They were:

  • Phil
  • Bertha
  • Rhiann

The surprise of the night was a presentation to Kylie who has already contributed over 500 hours. An outstanding achievement.

The Cadets were awarded their ANZAC Day proficiency badges by the Commissioner, and the Member for Nhulunbuy Ms Lynne Walker MLA presented the Cadet of the Year and Most Improved Cadet Awards.

The cadet awards were presented to:  20090806_NHU_Inspection
Nhulunbuy Cadet of the Year - Makaela.
Makaela received the award for her enthusiasm, attendance and consistent attitude.
Most improved - Kasey
Best consistently smart uniform - was a tie between Ashliegh, Ky and Kasey.
