Continued from Part 1

When we finally got to camp Larry had already got some refreshing cold drinks ready and then we all could relax except for the poor people who were on lunch duty! 20100715_Vol_News_10

20100715_Vol_News_5After lunch we all headed down to the dry river bed for the juniors’ environmental studies interest badge. The juniors were divided into four groups prior to the camp: Trees, Insects, Birds, and Reptiles. Each group had to get four photos of their group’s assignment for their interest badge.

When we got back from the walk we did a flag raising “ceremony” as Geoff called it. We had two teams and each team had a triangular bandage as a flag. We had to get the highest flagpole to win. To do this we got a pole from the middle of an arena and you needed to get as many poles as you can.

When all had had a bit of free time we went down to Simpsons Gap itself for some wallaby watching. We waited for quite a while and then we saw a wallaby with a baby in its pouch come down for a drink. It went so close to that we could almost touch it!!! 20100715_Vol_News_9

When we got back, the tea cooking crew got straight into the job while the others just had free time. When tea was ready we all sat around the campfire eating the tacos.

20100715_Vol_News_7When tea was finished the tea crew had to go and cook supper as well! We had more Milo; chocolate bananas cooked in the hot coals of the fire, and toasted marshmallows.

After supper we all started heading off to bed. By 9:30pm just about everyone was asleep.

The next morning the breakfast crew were up early (yeah right!!) to make a breakfast of pancakes for everyone. If you call 8 am early….. 20100715_Vol_News_8

After breakfast we packed up camp and then went for a walk to a billabong just down the road from where we were, which was really fun.

After the walk Larry gave us some cold drinks and a packed lunch and then we set of to the St John centre by bike.
