Members arrived a little later than the 11.00AM start time after a Cooks tour by Leon to get there and getting caught up in heavy traffic entering the venue. The initial sitting of the vehicle was deemed unsuitable as the slope of the ground was identified as being a potential hazard for the “legless” patrons who no doubt would approach us later in the day. The vehicle was relocated to flatter ground and parked at an angle to create some shade. The alignment of the vehicle was changed several times during the day to maintain the shade for members and patients. A table and chairs were acquired from various locations (as per the great leader Ho Chi Min’s teachings) to outfit the First Aid Post. The day started slowly with early requests for safety pins to hold clothing together; both for females and males! Band aids and elastoplast for blisters then became the norm with catering staff suffering cut fingers and requests for Panadol filling in the middle of the duty. In the end intoxicated young ladies, one XO1 and cut feet to males and females completed the day. The final statistics for our post were about 50 OB11 type “treatments” and 14 OB 12 cases with two ambulance transports to RDH. Other highlights of the day were: - An interaction by three members of the Australian Army Psychology Corps with Pat Murray and another member; I suspect they were undertaking research into old men in uniform!
- Security guards refusing to let an NT Govt Minister into a venue as he did not have the correct pass.
- NT Govt Liquor Inspectors sought comment from us on several occasions during the day.
- The drinks arranged on an ongoing basis by Simon Spillett and the sandwiches arranged by the lady from Fosters Brewing.
And on a really positive note it was good to have some keen young new members actively participating until we left for home at 19.30
