I would like to thank everyone who rallied to volunteer at Freds Pass Show for 4 days last week. The event was very successful and although we only did 8 OB12s and the usual plethora of band aids and sun screen (and directions to the toilets) it was a time well spent. Our Territory Team, Peter Poole, Brett Devitt and Les Anson, came down on Saturday with their Superintendant Kaye Griffin, to practice scenarios for the national comp. Humpty Doo cadets came along as volunteer casualties and they had a great time and learnt lots of new skills, including how to pull a scoop apart and do log rolls. We had one of the happiest looking spinal patients on the stretcher we had ever seen.
Nola Hutchins and Adrian Rossiter were there to support their cadets and we managed to get some skills and competencies signed off for senior cadets doing their FRAs. An event like this can't take place without all the behind the scenes people and I'd like to thank the following:
Thanks to the other Palmerston vollies, Mel Petersen and Jason Chan for covering Friday night with Robyn Wilson who came straight from a full shift on Comms. As for the Humpty Doo vollies, what can I say? Karina and Ashley were there from 0700 to finish most days and were also running around behind the scenes. They also organised the haystacking team. New member Anthony Kleibon was a great help and has really good site setup and dismantling skills. Last and of course not least, the Lee and Greg Payne team who really are the Humpty Doo Division, with the rest of us just tagging along. Postscript: Thanks Frank - would you believe I forgot to mention your visit to our stall.............ooops! no offence meant.
Frank Dunstan (Bushfires NT & St John Volunteer)Last Saturday and Sunday I was on duty at the Bushfires NT stand at the show – yes, volunteer firies get public duties too !!! While there I ran into a few friends from St John.           Late afternoon on the Saturday one of our firies, Ray, managed to get a laceration just above his right elbow that produced a bit of red. While his partner Rhonda was rummaging through a recently purchased first aid kit I saw some St John vollies pass by. Forget the new kit, it was time for some expert help. We tracked them down to the ambulance at the end of the line where Greg Payne had 5 young Cadets in train.

Hay Stacking Event - Greg PayneThe first photo shows a nice stack but we lost because one of those bales on the ground should have been on top. The finals for third place were allowed 3 minutes and the Feral Ambo best was just good enough. The show was hard work but rewarding with the positive publicity. A big thanks to the bumper sticker girl for running a tight ship.  Â
