Congratulations to Alice Springs Cadet, Kristy Janssen who has been selected to represent St John Ambulance Northern Territory at the upcoming International Youth Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand in January 2010. Kristy is an active member of the Alice Springs Cadet Division and recently won the Cadet First Aid Competition team event with her siblings Jaime and Ben. She has completed the Knowledge of the Order Proficiency, Apply First Aid and regularly attends public duties, most notably the Camel Cup, Anzac Day Parade, Henley on Todd and the Knighthood of Sir Bernard Kilgariff. Kristy contributes to the Alice Springs community in other ways, including helping to organise and run a culturally appropriate Indigenous children’s program, assisting Teen Challenge to run the ‘Shine’ program at Yirara College, helping with the Playing for Life program as a coach at Araluen College and volunteering at a local bookshop. Kristy’s ambition is to become a doctor. By attending the International Youth Festival, Kristy hopes to learn more about other cultures, develop international friendships and gain more confidence in her own abilities. |
