Well, it’s all over for another year. The NT Cadet First Aid Competitions were held at Marrara Christian College on Sunday 30th September. Due to some recent rain it was a very hot day, but the catering provided by Kevin, Leehoon and Al Ballinger certainly made up for it. The pancakes, bacon and eggs for breakfast and BBQ and salad lunch were delicious.

A big thank you to Competition Manager, Christine Turner for all her hard work in putting the competition together. Many thanks to the team of helpers – adjudicators, cas sim, casualties, time keepers, isolation stewards, runners, set stewards, catering staff, scorers and of course all the cadets who competed. It was great to see both Alice Springs and Katherine come up for the day. We really appreciated your effort in making the trip.

The scenarios for the competitions were:

Cadet Leader - 2 people riding along on pushbikes run into someone talking on the mobile phone.

Casualty 1 - suspected spinal injury; Casualty 2 - # knee and laceration to arm; Casualty 3 - # clavicle + laceration to forehead

Individual - 4 people mucking around a fountain when 2 fall off injuring themselves, hitting another while the fourth has an asthma attack.

Casualty 1 - Abdominal Injury - intestine exposed; Casualty 2 - Laceration to forehead; Casualty 3 - # clavicle; Casualty 4 - Asthma

Team - 5 people - 2 adults go for drinks and leave the 3 kids playing netball - 2 boys on a dare try to climb the pole bringing it down hitting another kid, knocking her unconscious; kid up the pole jumps clear grazing knees; the other has a bottle which was knocked out of their hand breaking the bottle - 2 adults arrive back and try to move the pole.

Casualty 1 - unconscious ? head injury; Casualty 2 - Lacerated arm with embedded glass; Casualty 3 - # humerus; Casualty 4 - # finger and laceration to leg; Casualty 5 - grazes to knee
