Important information about HLTFA301B-Apply First Aid PDF Print E-mail

HLTFA301B-Apply first aid, is a Unit of Competence contained in the Health Training Package (HLT07) and on review may be appropriate when considered against similar Units of Competence contained in other Training Packages.

Since the addition of this unit to the Health Training Package, St John (NT) has decided to replace the previously accredited Course in Senior First Aid-70108NT. The replacement Unit of Competence, ‘Apply first Aid’ has the same theoretical information and practical skills which were contained in the now superseded Senior First Aid program.

Those who wish to re-validate first aid skills achieved under the Course in Senior First Aid-70108NT, are eligible to participate in a 1 day ‘refresher’ course designed against the performance criteria and assessment requirements of HLTFA301B-Apply first aid. As first aid skills and information frequently change, only one ‘refresher’ course may be completed between participation in each 2 full programs. The assessment standard associated with the ‘refresher’ course is developed to reflect the standards contained in the Apply first aid Unit of Competence and as such, when re-validation is undertaken, successful participants will receive a Statement of Proficiency awarded against HLTFA301B

It is the current interpretation of the (NT) Vocational Education and Training sector that once a Statement of Attainment for the successful completion of a Unit of Competence has been awarded, there is no requirement to complete the same unit again and a Statement of Attainment for the completing the same unit at some time in the future is not able to be issued. For this reason, persons re-validating their first aid skills with St John (NT) achieved in HLTFA301B-Apply first aid, will receive a Statement of Proficiency.

St John (NT) promotes participation in the ‘refresher’ program as a way of ensuring you maintain current competence at the first aid level achieved when you complete Apply first aid-HLTFA301B.
