For more information regarding this learning option, please refer to HLTFA301B - Apply first aid.

Flexible Learning is one way of achieving an Apply first aid (formally Senior First Aid) credential while only spending one day in the classroom environment.

There are 2 components involved with training in this format:
  1. Approximately 4-6 hours of self-study using either a CD-ROM or hard copy Learner Guide** resource to assist your learning (not assessed).
    • ** Learner Guide: The CD-ROM in hard copy printed booklet format. It is ideal for those learners who (1) do not have access to an appropriate computer, or (2) who are uncomfortable using a computer and prefer to learn using a book.
  2. Attendance at and participation in a 1 day Practical Skill Workshop.
    • The Workshop also includes the standard Apply first aid practical and theoretical assessment.
St John (NT) will provide the selected ‘flexible learning’ resource (CD-ROM or hard copy Learner Guide) at the time your booking is received. This is required to be at least 10 days before the scheduled Practical Skill Workshop.
  • Payment (or a Purchase/Work/Service Order) for individual or group booking customers must be received before the selected learning resource is able to be released.
  • At the time of booking into the ‘flexible learning’ format, you should clearly identify if you would prefer the CD-ROM or hard copy Learner Guide (and for group bookings, the number of each format required).
Learners with known language, literacy or numeracy difficulties should consider the flexible learning (either format) option carefully before deciding to complete their first aid training in this manner.

All learners are encouraged to allocate an appropriate amount of time to working through either of the self-study resources provided with the ‘flexible learning’ option.
  • Our experience has shown us that those who decide not to work through their learning resource will find it difficult to successfully complete the theoretical assessment component on their first attempt.
