| COURSE OUTCOME: | Participants will be able to prepare, respond and provide emergency first aid in a remote situation. They will be able to work in conjunction with medical/emergency services support and be able to evaluate and communicate an incident. |
| WHO SHOULD ATTEND: | Those - where this level of training is required as part of their employment
- considering gaining additional first aid skills which may helpful toward future employment aspects;
- with formal or informal first aid responsibilities in remote or isolated work places.

| PRE-REQUISITE: | HLTFA301B Apply First Aid (previously Senior First Aid) or recognised equivalent, achieved within the last 3 years. (If your current first aid certificate is more than two years old we strongly recommend you update this qualification before attending this course.) |
| TIMES: | Delivered over 2 days. 8.00am – 5.00pm each day |
| VENUE: | Public Courses - Advised in your confirmation letter. Private Courses - You will be advised by your employer |
| DRESS: | Skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate. Casualty simulation make-up is used for practical activities. To enable you to actively participate in some of the practical exercises we recommend you bring an old set of clothes to change into. Some casualty clothing will be provided. |
| MEALS: | At St John venues coffee and tea are provided. A 30 minute lunch break will be taken at sometime between 12:00 midday – 1:30pm. Lunch is not provided, however a fridge and microwave oven are available for student use. |

- Change of clothing
- A light jacket if you get cold in air conditioning

| STUDENT PACK: | Will be issued on the first day of the course and includes St John Ambulance Australia, Remote Field Guide; Basic Life Support publication; wallet card; student workbook; handouts and promotional material. |
| ASSESSMENT: | Practical skill assessments are undertaken throughout the training by observation and the use of checklists by the assessor. A 30 question multi-choice assessment will be conducted prior to concluding the course. Participants with literacy/numeracy difficulties or physical ailments/conditions should speak with the Trainer to discuss alternative approaches. Please note: participants should be aware this course requires them to undertake strenuous physical activity to meet all assessment criteria to a satisfactory level. It is advised that intending participants who sustain an injury after the time of booking contact St John-NT to postpone their training |
| PRIVACY STATEMENT: | - You will be asked to complete a Statistics Form at the commencement of this program.
- The information we collect is used for statistical reporting to the Department of Education and Training.
- If your course has been paid for by a third party (employer, employment agency) attendance details and a copy of your final credential will be made available to that party.
- St John (NT) may also use this information to contact you at the time your qualification is about to expire to remind you of the need to arrange to have it updated.
- If you do not wish to be contacted when your qualification is due for renewal please indicate in the space allocated on the Statistics Form.

| COURSE TOPICS: | Planning and preparation; managing the remote first aid situation; infection control, hygiene and prolonged care; basic life support (review); observation and documentation; triage; managing injuries; safety and survival; communications; retrieval and evacuation; bites and stings; lifting and moving; protection from the environment; sudden illness. |
| CREDENTIAL ISSUED: | Statement of Attainment NOTE: If you are completing this training to update an existing credential you will receive a Statement of Proficiency not another Statement of Attainment. The Statement of Proficiency carries recognition where it may be a requirement that an individual maintains ‘current’ first aid competence at this level. |
| RE-VALIDATION RECOMMENDED: | To maintain current competence St John Ambulance (NT) strongly recommends proficiency is revalidated within 3 years from the date of issue. |
