People who may consider this level of first aid training are those who:
  • Are required to have this level of training as part of their job
  • Are considering gaining additional first aid skills which may helpful toward future employment aspects
  • Have formal or informal first aid responsibilities in remote or isolated work places
On Scene 5
Pre-Entry Standard: HLTFA301B-Apply First Aid (previously Senior First Aid) or recognised equivalent, achieved within the last 3 years

The training will assist learners to:

  • Prepare to respond to emergency in a remote situation
  • Provide first aid in a remote situation 
  • Work in conjunction with medical and emergency services support
  • Evaluate the incident

 

Topics include:
Planning and preparation; managing the remote first aid situation; infection control, hygiene and prolonged care; basic life support (review); observation and documentation; triage; managing injuries; safety and survival; communications; retrieval and evacuation; bites and stings; lifting and moving; protection from the environment; sudden illness
  • This training is delivered face-to-face over 2 full days
  • It is suitable for any person over the age of 14 years who has previously achieved HLTFA301B-Apply First Aid (or a recognised equivalent credential)

Assessment:
  • Practical skill assessments are undertaken throughout the training through observation and the use of checklists by the assessor
  • Written assessment involving 30 questions prior to concluding the training which requires a minimum achievement of 24/30
  • A supplementary assessment is available for learners who do not achieve the minimum pass
  • A Statement of Attainment ‘HLTFA302A Provide first aid in remote situation’ is awarded at the successful completion of the training

To maintain proficiency and current competence at this level of first aid training, St John (NT) recommends re-validation every 3 years
