| Nationally accredited as: | Provide basic emergency life support | | National Code: | HLTFA201A | Formally called, ‘Accident Action’, this short course (1 day), is not normally delivered by St John (NT) as a ‘public’ course, group booking enquiries are welcome. This Unit of Competence introduces participants to the skills and background knowledge to recognise/respond to life threatening emergencies using basic life support techniques until a more qualified first aider or medically trained person is available. | Groups who may consider this level of first aid training are those who: | - are required to achieve only this basic level of first aid training as part of their job
- would like to learn basic emergency first aid information without the need to complete a more intensive or involved learning program
- may feel confronted or challenged by the amount of information/assessment requirements of a more complex and detailed first aid program
| | Pre-Entry Standard: | None Apply | The training will assist learners to: - Respond to a first aid emergency
- Initiate basic life support/first aid measures
- Communicate details of the incident; and
- Evaluate own performance
Topics include: Legal issues; Infection control; DRABCD Action Plan; managing the unconscious casualty; resuscitation; defibrillation information; choking; first aid kits; shock; wounds and bleeding; burns; chest pain; asthma and anaphylaxis, fractures (broken bones), spinal injuries | - This 1 day training session is suitable for learners over the age of 14 years who may not be comfortable or able to attend a more detailed first aid course but who may have a need to learn more first aid than that offered in a shorter program, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
| Assessment: - 2 practical scenarios with observation checklists used by the assessor
- Written or verbal assessment involving 10 questions requiring learners to accomplish a minimum achievement of 6/10 pass score
- Supplementary assessments are available should the minimum achievement not be reached at the first attempt
Prior to 1st July 2008 a Statement of Attainment for the Course in Accident Action 70106NT will be issued for successful completion of this training. For all other enrolments after 1st of July 2008 successful participants completing this training will receive a Statement of Attainment HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support.
