| COURSE OUTCOME: | Re-validate first aid skills and knowledge to confidently apply first aid procedures in emergency situations until medical support is available or the injured person is evacuated to a medical facility.
Participants will develop skills and knowledge necessary to provide first aid response; life support; management of casualty(s); the incident and other first aiders until the arrival of medical or other assistance.. |
| WHO SHOULD ATTEND: | Those required by industry to act as First Aid Officers are may be deemed necessary under work health legislation who have previously completed a Provide basic emergency life support program (or equivalent) and would like to learn more about first aid likely to come across accidents/incidents; who wish to learn first aid skills which may useful for employment purposes; who are interested in helping to promote health and well being in the community |
| PRE-REQUISITE: | Senior First Aid credential or equivalent achieved within the last 3 years (not in Refresher format) |
| TIMES: | Delivered over 1 day. 8:15am – 4:30pm. |
| VENUE: | Public Courses Advised in your confirmation letter.

| DRESS: | Due to the nature of practical exercises skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate. |
| MEALS: | St John venues provide coffee, tea, a fridge and a microwave oven. Wherever possible, lunch time is from 12:00 midday - 1:00pm. |
| STUDENT PACK: | Issued prior to the course at the time your position is confirmed this pack contains; the St John Ambulance Australia, Australian First Aid Manual; wallet card; a course workbook (for revision purposes, Please complete and bring to the course with you), with promotional material attached.
This pack should be collected prior to the course commencement date from the St John Ambulance centre where you will be completing your training. NOTE: Where courses are scheduled at our Parap or Palmerston centres, participants are required to collect their packs from St John Ambulance (NT) Inc: 50 Dripstone Road, Casuarina. Office hours are 8am – 4.30pm (Mon - Fri).
Alternatively, St John (NT) will post the pack to you by Registered Mail. A $12.00 postage fee will be incurred.
For private course bookings the packs may be collected by someone from your workplace. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure they receive their pack |

| ASSESSMENT: | A 20 question multi-choice assessment will be conducted prior to concluding the course. 3 x Practical scenario assessments (CPR; Bleeding/first aid conditions and Multi Injuries) will be undertaken progressively during the program using checklists and casualty report forms. Participants with literacy/numeracy difficulties or physical ailments/conditions should speak with the Trainer to discuss alternative approaches.
Please note: participants should be aware this course requires them to undertake strenuous physical activity to meet all assessment criteria to a satisfactory level. It is advised that intending participants who sustain an injury after the time of booking contact St John-NT to postpone their training. The assessment correlates with the assessment for HLTFA301B Apply first aid and will re-validate the skills and knowledge assessed during that course. |
| PRIVACY STATEMENT: | - You will be asked to complete a Statistics Form at the commencement of this program.
- The information we collect is used for statistical reporting to the Department of Education and Training.
- If your course has been paid for by a third party (employer, employment agency) attendance details and a copy of your final credential will be made available to that party.
- St John (NT) may also use this information to contact you at the time your qualification is about to expire to remind you of the need to arrange to have it updated.
- If you do not wish to be contacted when your qualification is due for renewal please indicate in the space allocated on the Statistics Form.

| COURSE TOPICS: | Legal issues; infection control; DRSABCD Action Plan; managing the unconscious casualty; resuscitation; defibrillation information; choking; first aid kits; shock; wounds & bleeding; burns; asthma; anaphylaxis; safety & risk management; fractures; sprains, strains & dislocations; head, neck and spinal injury; chest and abdominal injuries; facial injuries; heat & cold induced illness; poisons, bites and stings; other medical emergencies. |
| CREDENTIAL ISSUED: | You will receive an Apply first aid (Refresher) Statement of Proficiency as this course re-validates the skills and knowledge contained in HLTFA301B – Apply first aid (after 30 June 2008); and the Course in Senior First Aid – 70108NT (until 29/06/08). The Statement of Proficiency carries recognition where it may be a requirement that an individual maintains ‘current’ first aid competence at this level. |
| RE-VALIDATION RECOMMENDED: | To maintain current competence St John Ambulance (NT) strongly recommends proficiency is revalidated within 3 years from the date of issue. |
