Participants will enhance first aid skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an advanced first aid response. | Groups who may consider this level of first aid training are those who: | - who are ‘site’ First Aid responders
- people who have previously completed pre-perquisite training
- community members who may attend a first aid incident;
- people wishing to gain additional skills which may help toward future employment

| Pre-Entry Standard: | An Apply first aid (or equivalent) credential obtained within the last 3 years. |
The training will assist learners to: - Respond to a first aid emergency
- Initiate advanced resuscitation techniques
- Communicate details of the incident; and
- Evaluate own performance
Topics include:
Prevention of infection when giving first aid; DRABCD and Resuscitation review; Definition of terms in Automated External Defibrillation; Safety when using an AED; Preparation of the casualty prior to use of the AED; Use of the Soft Bag Resuscitator; Administration of Oxygen; Oxygen delivery systems; Oxygen powered resuscitation; Maintenance of Oxygen and AED equipment; medications; Pain management; Analgesia; trauma management; basic anatomy (body systems); clinical assessment; emotionally disturbed casualties; casualty suffering drug/alcohol abuse; burns; poisoning; moving the injured casualty; triage; bleeding and aseptic techniques; basic anatomy (musculo-skeletal system); fractures; chest injuries; crush injuries; head, neck and spinal injuries; abdominal injuries; Hot and cold injuries; eye injuries; medical conditions (review); Skin conditions; Post incident Management. | - This 1 day training session is suitable for learners over the age of 14 years who may not be comfortable or able to attend a more detailed first aid course but who may have a need to learn more first aid than that offered in a shorter program, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- Due to the nature of practical exercises skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate.

| Times: | Delivered over 3 days. 8:00am – 5:00 pm.
A lunch break of 45 minutes is programmed daily, lunch will generally be taken sometime between 12:00 midday and 1:30pm |
You should bring: - Notebook
- Pen/Pencil
- The completed workbook (which will be sent to participants prior to course commencement).
- A light jacket if you get cold in air conditioning
- Change of clothing and a towel
- A current Australian First Aid Manual. Note: Participants are strongly encouraged to contact Training Administration to purchase this item (if required).
Assessment: - Practical scenarios being conducted throughout the program using of observation checklists
- Individual and group based desktop/paper activities
- A supplementary assessment is offered to those learners who do not achieve the minimum pass score
To maintain proficiency and current competence at this level of first aid training, St John (NT) recommends re-validation every 3 years.
