| COURSE OUTCOME: | Participants will enhance their first aid skills and knowledge to confidently apply advanced first aid resuscitation techniques; life support; management of casualty(s) until the arrival of medical or other assistance and provision of support to other providers |
| WHO SHOULD ATTEND: | Those required to have this training as part of their employment and have the necessary equipment available; wanting to gain additional skills which may help toward future employment prepared to utilise their skills, knowledge and equipment where available |
| PRE-REQUISITES: | As identified below (or recognised equivalent) HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR achieved within the last 12 months, or HLTFA301B – Apply First Aid (previously Senior First Aid) achieved within the last 3 years, or HLTFA201A - Provide basic emergency life support within the last 12 months. |

| DRESS: | Students are advised to wear clothing suitable for practical activities. Skirts or dresses are not appropriate for this course. |

| STUDENT PACK: | Will be issued on the day and includes Advanced Resuscitation booklet; Basic Life Support publication; wallet card; student handouts and promotional materials. |
| ASSESSMENT: | Practical assessment will be undertaken progressively throughout the program. Assessors will use observation checklists. An assessment paper will be conducted prior to the conclusion of the program. Participants with literacy/numeracy difficulties or physical ailments/conditions should speak with the Trainer to discuss alternative approaches. Please note: participants should be aware this course requires them to undertake strenuous physical activity to meet all assessment criteria to a satisfactory level. It is advised that intending participants who sustain an injury after the time of booking contact St John-NT to postpone their training. |

| COURSE TOPICS: | Prevention of infection when giving first aid; DRSABCD Action Plan and resuscitation review; definition of terms in automated external defibrillation; safety when using an AED; preparation of the casualty prior to using an AED; use of the soft bag resuscitator; administration of oxygen; oxygen delivery systems; oxygen powered resuscitation; suction; maintenance of equipment. |
| CREDENTIAL ISSUED: | Statement of Attainment. NOTE: If you are completing this unit to update an existing credential you will receive a Statement of Proficiency not another Statement of Attainment. The Statement of Proficiency carries recognition where it may be a requirement that an individual maintains ‘current’ first aid competence at this level. |
| RE-VALIDATION RECOMMENDED: | To maintain current competence St John Ambulance (NT) strongly recommends proficiency is revalidated within 12 months from the date of issue. |
