| COURSE OUTCOME: |
Participants will enhance first aid skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an advanced first aid response. They will also be able to establish and maintain facilities to enable or facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace. |
| WHO SHOULD ATTEND: |
Those
- who are ‘site’ First Aid responders
- people who have previously completed pre-perquisite training
- who may attend a first aid incident;
- people wishing to gain additional skills which may help toward future employment

| IMPORTANT INFORMATION: |
- Occupational First Aid is a program which includes 2 units of competency. HLTFA402B - Apply advanced first aid and HLTFA403A – Manage first aid in the workplace.
- Intending participants must have achieved the minimum pre-requisite standard prior to enrolment in Occupational First Aid.
- As at 01 September, 2006, intending participants are not required to re-qualify in Senior/Apply First Aid prior to completing an Occupational First Aid course. If you maintain your Occupational First Aid credential you will not need to maintain an Apply First Aid credential, unless you choose to.
- Should your Occupational First Aid credential ‘lapse’ you will need to meet all pre-entry requirements if you choose to renew it some time in the future.
- The OFA program will refer to learning which is achieved during the completion of the course pre-entry standard, Apply first aid (or its equivalent). You will be asked to demonstrate skills or recall knowledge from Apply first aid levels.

The training is delivered over 5 consecutive days, 8:00am – 5:00pm daily. |

| DRESS: |
Skirts or dresses are not considered appropriate. Casualty simulation make-up is used for practical activities. To enable you to actively participate in some of the practical exercises we recommend you bring an old set of clothes to change into. Some casualty clothing will be provided. |
| MEALS: |
At St John venues coffee and tea are provided. A lunch break of 30 minutes is programmed daily. The lunch break will generally be taken sometime between 12:00 midday and 1:30pm. Lunch is not provided, however a fridge and microwave oven are available for student use. |
| PRE COURSE MATERIALS: |
Participants will receive a basic first aid revision workbook; Basic Life Support publication; and wallet card at least 1 week prior to the course commencement date. It is highly recommended the workbook be completed prior to the course. It is an important part of the course’s introductory session which reviews underpinning knowledge associated with first aid procedures. Please bring the completed workbook with you. |

- A set of Medical First Aid records used within your workplace.
- Change of clothing and a towel
- A current Australian First Aid Manual

| ASSESSMENT: |
Three assessment papers comprising multi choice and true/false answers are completed at different times during the program. The break between assessments is to allow participants the opportunity to focus their attention in specific areas. Practical assessments are undertaken progressively throughout the program with Assessors using observation checklists. Practical assessments will focus on both individual and group performance. Paper based/desktop assessment tools are also used during the program and involves both individual and group work. For participants with literacy/numeracy difficulties or physical disabilities alternative assessment strategies may be used. You should approach the Trainers to discuss your requirements. Please note: participants should be aware this course requires them to undertake strenuous physical activity to meet all assessment criteria to a satisfactory level. It is advised that intending participants who sustain an injury after the time of booking contact St John-NT to postpone their training |
| PRIVACY STATEMENT: |
- You will be asked to complete a Statistics Form at the commencement of this program.
- The information we collect is used for statistical reporting to the Department of Education and Training.
- If your course has been paid for by a third party (employer, employment agency) attendance details and a copy of your final credential will be made available to that party.
- St John (NT) may also use this information to contact you at the time your qualification is about to expire to remind you of the need to arrange to have it updated.
- If you do not wish to be contacted when your qualification is due for renewal please indicate in the space allocated on the Statistics Form.

| CREDENTIALS ISSUED: |
If you are completing this training to update an existing credential which was achieved prior to 30 June 2008 you will be issued with another Statement of Attainment. You may receive a Statement of Proficiency for any future credential updates. The Statement of Proficiency carries recognition where it may be a requirement that an individual maintains ‘current’ first aid competence at this level. |
| RE-VALIDATION RECOMMENDED: |
To maintain current competence St John Ambulance (NT) strongly recommends proficiency is revalidated within 3 years from the date of issue. |
