The 5th Balikpapan Mining and Petroleum Expo, was held from 18 to 20th June 2009, the largest of its type outside Jakarta. St John Ambulance NT Contracts Manager, Tracy Watts attended as 20090629 - St John Amb - Balikpapan Visit Group Photo 1part of the Northern Territory Government delegation, to seek opportunities to supply staff, medical equipment and vehicle modifications to the growing mining and petroleum industry in Indonesia.

Traditionally the Northern Territory has been amongst the largest international contingents at this Expo. St John Ambulance NT is proud to have been part of the group who are offering a wealth of quality services and products for export to the mining industry. Historically petroleum has been the main economic driver of the Balikpapan economy, with Mining as Balikpapan’s other key industry.

St John Ambulance NT Inc has been supplying contract paramedical services to assist and support the mining, exploration, construction and production industries worldwide since 1994, as a separate department to the Ambulance Service. “We offer a complete “one stop shop” that includes design and stocking of site required first aid rooms, design and fit outs of site specific Ambulances, first aid training for staff and the supply of fully trained, certified and accredited Ambulance Paramedics” said Tracy Watts, Contracts Manager for St John Ambulance NT.

St John Ambulance NT Paramedics have years of experience dealing with a wide variety of trauma and medical conditions and are trained to assess situations quickly and respond with the best care applicable. Their skills include advanced airway management, intravenous cannulation, drugs administration, knowledge and skills to complete medical consults and organise medical evacuations to name but a few. Some St John Ambulance NT staff also have “site specific skills” such as BOSIET or HUET training. Among the comprehensive selection of products and services available, St John Ambulance NT staff are also able to assist with the implementation of personnel health monitoring, assisting with drug and alcohol testing, ERT training on a long term or short term contract basis, therefore alleviating organisational requirements to replace absent staff.
