Media Release

27 April 2009

DSCF3631-1St John Ambulance Volunteers in the Northern Territory are pleased to haven been recently awarded $4000 from the Clubs Community Grant Scheme to assist in the professional and technical fit-out of a newly gifted vehicle, recently received from the NT Government to support the work of Volunteers in providing first aid coverage at events across the Top End.

Funding received will assist in the purchase of a First Response Bag, Oxy Sock, Oxygen Gages Flow Meter, Glucometer, V-Vac Suction Unit, Portable Radio and Installation and an Automatic Defibrillator.

St John Ambulance Volunteer services are delivered across the entire Northern Territory. All members of the community and visitors to the region, attending minor and major public events will benefit from the outcome of this contribution, with Volunteers now equipped with the necessary equipment to appropriately and quickly respond to medical emergencies and first aid needs of the community.

“The support of the Clubs Community Grant Scheme ensures our ability to continue to provide First Aid coverage to events across the Territory as a service to the community” said Steve Peers, First Aid Services Manager. “As the Top End continues to grow and expand, the service provided by our volunteers is under greater demand. Funding for the fit out of this vehicle is a significant contribution to our volunteer capability!”.

St John Ambulance Australia (NT) Inc, is an incorporated charitable organisation, with over 500 active volunteers providing emergency support, first aid training and community services across the 20090302_Vehicle_110Northern Territory. St John Ambulance has been serving the Northern Territory community through its volunteers since 1950 and ensures that members of the public have access to first aid services at a range of community and public events. Many public events are not eligible for public liability insurance without the presence of qualified first aid officers and the community is grateful for the many performances, festivals and large scale events we are able to enjoy each year with the support of our St John Ambulance Volunteers. In the last financial year, St John Ambulance Volunteers in the Northern Territory donated 67,961 hours of their own time to attend to public duties, ambulance duties and First Aid training courses.

The Clubs Community Grant Scheme is a new community initiative of both the Casuarina All Sports Club and the Palmerston Sports Club, demonstrating their commitment to the ongoing development of the local community.

St John Ambulance Australia NT Inc would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Clubs Community Grant Scheme for supporting the many St John Ambulance Volunteers, through this program.
